The Renevlyn Development Initiative (RDI) and its partners – Citizens Free Service Forum (CFSF), Environmental Defenders Network (EDEN) and Neighbourhood Environment Watch (NEW) Foundation have petitioned  the Nasarawa State House of Assembly on the impacts of mining in Karu and Awe Local Government Areas of the state.

According to the petition which was signed and read by Jakpor Philip, Executive Director of RDI, the petitioners demands that the Assembly carry out fact finding visits to Uke district in Karu LGA and Abuni in Awe LGA following the documentation of mining impacts such as pollution of sources of water, despoliation of farmlands, sexual exploitation, exploitation of minors and growing insecurity.

Jakpor read the text of the petition at a hybrid Media Interaction on State of Mining Communities in Nasarawa held last Wednesday 2 October 2024.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
