The Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF) has postponed the national Under-15 School tournament which was earlier scheduled to commence from October 24 to November 1.

A statement signed by the federation’s Secretary General, Mr. Oba Funsho Usman Phd said that the postponement became necessary in order to ensure the success of the championship.

He explained that the new date is now from November 6th to 15th in the federal capital Territory ( FCT), Abuja.

He added that the invited schools are expected to arrive on November 6, while the competition proper on November 7 and departure on November 15, 2924.

The Secretary General regretted any inconveniences this postponement caused, pledged that the federation is doing everything possible to organise a befitting youth championship.

Meanwhile, the representative of Kano state team, the students  of Government College Kano has applauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for equipping the team morally and finally aimed at making it comfortable while in Abuja.

The team which received the news of the postponement of the competition in Zaria on their way to Abuja on Thursday, regretted the late information as the students were in high spirits to make Kano proud.

Speaking the director of sports in the state ministry of education, Malam Ibrahim Bello said that the postponement will not discourage the team, as arrangements have been concluded to camp the players ahead of the new date.

Bello however charged the students to continue to give their coaches all the necessary support and cooperation in order to actualize the objectives.

The director then commended the commissioner of education,
Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa and management staff of the ministry for the unflinching support to the team

Some of the students spoke with newsmen and assured that they would do their best to sustain the higher profile of Kano state as far as sporting competition is concerned within and outside the country.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
