The 11th Kano State Higher Institution Games (KASHIGA) otherwise known as Governor’s Cup which was flagged off two weeks ago and supposed to end last week will finally come to an end tomorrow.

According to the invitation letter which was mailed to this site which was also signed by the LOC chairman, Abubakar Adam Karaye, the closing ceremony comes tomorrow evening at the Kano Pillars Stadium.

Even though there was no further explanation with regards to the lines of activities on the final day, it is certain that the third place football match between Kano State Polytechnic  and ECOHSAT will be decided.

Similarly, the team of ABCOA will lock horns with Tropical COHT at the finals of the football match the same day.

The shifting of the finals match to tomorrow according to our investigation was not unconnected with the unavailability of funds to settle match officials and other officials.

It was also learnt that the government failure to redeem its pledge has spoiled the organizers plans as up to now they are yet to procure trophies and prizes to game winners, players and officials for their outstanding performance during the championship.

The Honorable Commissioner of Higher Education and his Youth and Sports counterpart and all the heads of the participating institutions are expected to grace the occasion.

I was at the production unit of the Triumph Publishing Company, Kano but my keen interest in sports journalism made me to be sports writer and maintained a sports column called (Sports Eye) after my mentor Sani Muhammad Zaria transferred his service to New Nigeria newspapers in Kaduna. And when the government closed the Triumph in 2012, I was transfered to lectured DTP in the Department of Printing Technology of Kano State Polytechnic. And now that I retired, i used to visit the institution weekends for part-time lecturing.
