Former Kano Pillars skipper, Bala Okudili now incapacitated, needs assistance

Bala Okudili, the former captain of Kano Pillars Football Club, is gravely ill and is seeking medical attention to keep his body and soul together, according to this website.

Okudili, who played and captained the Sai Masu Gida team many years ago, is currently at home after being diagnosed with kidney disease.

The former Kano Pillar, who previously played for Gombe United, Jigawa Golden Stars, and Enyimba Football Teams, told the Nasara Radio Sports Programme “Taskar Wasanni” that he now lives at the mercy of others because he has nothing to do to support his family and buy drugs for his illness.

Okudili described life after active football retirement as chaotic since he has no money to meet his own and his family’s demands.

“I now depend on my friends and well-wishers to take care of my illness and feed my one wife and nine children”, Bala Okudili added.

The former captain of Kano Pillars then requested that the management of Kano Pillars, the Commissioner of Sports, and the state governor’s aid not only to him, but also many other state ex-players who are currently crippled due to diseases or other tragedies of life, in order to live a happy life.

“As of now, according to the former skipper of Kano Pillars FC, he has no home of his own and has been abandoned by his first wife because of the situation he found himself in,” he explained.

He also revealed that he is now living in a rented two bedroom apartment which he pays over one hundred thousand Naira yearly.

He then urged active players to be cautious and invest their current earnings so that they do not end up in their shoes of suffering inadequacies.

He ultimately asked the management of Kano Pillars FC, managed by the capable Ali Mai Samba, to find a role for him in the team so that he could begin earning money to support his family.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
