A team of about 300 people comprising males and females, players and officials from Kano state are participating in the ongoing National Youth Games which is taking place in Asaba the capital of Delta state with Malam Bala Sani Shehu, the acting chairman of Kano State Sports commission as its leader..
According to Muhammad Wasilu Kawo who doubles as SSA and pressman covering the games, 134 players, males and females, are to campaign for honors with the other 35 states and Abuja athletes.
Also in the team according to Wasilu Kawo are 134 officials which comprises 18 organizing secretaries, 24 coaches, 5 medical officials, 7 police escorts, 7 officials from SA office and one special staff.
The rest are 9 drivers, 10 pressmen, 6 other staff, 18 auxiliary staff, 5 helpers, 7 members of organizing committee, 8 management staff of Kano State Sports Commission and 7 members of Kano State House of Assembly.
Kawo told www.sportseye.ng in a cellphone interview that the state is to compete in 19 different sporting events namely football, basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, chess, rugby, fives, golf, judo, karate, swimming and shooting.
Others according to him are taekwondo, kokawa, weightlifting, wrestling, gymnastics and deaf athletics.
Meanwhile, Kano state has recorded its first victory in hockey after defeating the host state 2-1.
