Players salary failure and cut: Kano Pillars Mgt must act past

It is really unfortunate and sad that some players of Kano Pillars Football Club have not been getting their monthly take home months ago.

This was revealed at the Nasara Radio Kano sports programme “Taskar Wasanni” yesterday evening.

According to the reports five months into the new football season, more than five regular players of the club are yet to start collecting their salary.

Another number of Kano Pillars players always got their salaries heavily cut, an action which some supporters and stakeholders sees as an attempt to demoralize the players from the current top form they are now on.

Even though the presenter of the programme, Muhammad Wasilu Kawo could not reach the chairman of the club, Babangida Little for comment on the issue but a member of the club’s management committee, Alhaji Naziru Wapa proved ignorant about the situation.

Wapa quickly begged for the players’ understanding and promised to take the matter to the knowledge of the management committee.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
