At the conclusion of its virtual forum meeting held via Zoom on Sunday, 17 May 2026, the Marathon Organizers Forum of Nigeria elected Dr. Bashari Ahmed Maizare as its First Vice-President. The decision followed a zoning arrangement that allocated the position to the North-West, with Kano State designated as the beneficiary of the slot.

The meeting also reaffirmed several existing leadership positions within the forum. Mr. Charlz Ada retained his position as Second Vice-President, while the Third Vice-President role for the South-South zone was zoned to Calabar. Mr. Ukansi Kalu was confirmed as Secretary-General of the organization.1Diamond2

In the updated structure, the Fourth Vice-President position was allocated to the South-East zone and is expected to be filled by a representative from Abia State.

Additionally, Mr. Jaafaru Tijjani was confirmed as National Organizing Secretary, while the North-East zone will be represented by a nominee from Gombe State.

In his welcome address declaring the meeting open, the Convener, Event Ekeruvbe, emphasized the importance of equity, fairness, and balanced representation among members.

He noted that adherence to these principles would further strengthen unity and cohesion within the Forum.

During the meeting, Bosah Meg from Delta State sought clarification on the tenure of each office and the rationale behind the appointment of new officials. In a related contribution, Dr. Evang. Evang. Hope Ugochukwu from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, recommended that further consultations be undertaken to ensure proper harmonization and alignment of all available positions within the Forum’s structure.

After deliberations, members agreed that consultations would continue before any final decisions are concluded. Consequently, the house requested the Convener, Event Ekeruvbe, to publish the list of available positions as well as the current office holders on the Forum’s official platform for transparency and clarity.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
