The Kano Pillars Amputee Football Team has commenced a tour of local government areas across Kano State, organising friendly matches aimed at inspiring people with disabilities to shun begging, embrace self-reliance and demonstrate that disability is not a barrier to achieving their goals.am3

According to a statement signed by Ashiru Rabiu Gidan Tudu, Media Officer of the Kano Pillars Amputee Football Team, the team recently played a friendly match in Jogana town, Gezawa Local Government Area.

The match provided an opportunity for the amputee players to showcase their footballing talents while sending a powerful message that people with disabilities possess remarkable skills and abilities and can achieve great things when given the right opportunities, encouragement and support.

The tour is therefore not only about football but also about promoting inclusion, dignity and self-reliance among people with disabilities across the state.

The Football Association of Gezawa Local Government Area hosted the match under the leadership of its Chairman, Sunusi Umar Gezawa.Am1

Speaking after the game, Team Manager of Kano Pillars Amputee Football Team, Jamilu Uba Adamu, said the main objective of the match was to motivate young people with special needs in Jogana and other parts of Kano State.

He explained that Gezawa was chosen as the starting point of the initiative to spread the message that having a disability does not mean a person cannot make meaningful contributions to society.am4

Jamilu Uba Adamu commended the people of Jogana and the Gezawa Local Government Football Association for the warm reception and support extended to the team during the visit.

He also called on local government leaders across Kano State, as well as members of the public, to support the initiative by promoting special needs sports and creating more opportunities for talented individuals to showcase their abilities.

The Kano Pillars Amputee Football Team said the tour would continue across other local government areas of the state, with the aim of promoting unity, encouraging self-reliance and discouraging begging among people with special needs.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
