Kano State Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, led serving and retired senior civil servants to the wedding Fatiha of the son of retired Permanent Secretary and Chairman of the Kano State Payroll Standing Committee, Alhaji Auwalu Umar Sanda.

The wedding Fatiha, scheduled for 11:00am, was held at the Annur Mosque in Gida Dubu, Zawaciki, Kano, and attracted a large gathering of dignitaries, family members, friends and well-wishers from different walks of life.

The occasion was particularly significant for the father of the groom, who appeared visibly delighted by the large number of people who put aside their other engagements to honour his invitation.

His happiness was evident throughout the ceremony. He was seen moving around, warmly welcoming guests, shaking hands with visitors and taking photographs with many of them.

Among those in attendance were serving and retired Permanent Secretaries, directors and other senior civil servants, who joined members of the Sanda family, friends and associates to witness the ceremony and offer prayers for the newly married couple.

The gathering also provided an opportunity for past and present members of the Kano State civil service to reunite and celebrate with one of their colleagues and his family.

The ceremony was conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions, with prayers offered for the couple’s peaceful, prosperous and enduring marriage.

For me, however, the occasion carried an additional personal significance. It gave me the opportunity to see Alhaji Garba Musa, the former Head of Administration of Triumph Publishing Company.

I also had the opportunity to meet one of my primary school teachers from the 1970s, Alhaji Umar Idi, after many years. Seeing him again brought back fond memories of my primary school days and made the wedding Fatiha even more memorable for me.

I wish the father of the groom and his family long life, good health and abundant wealth. To the newly married couple, I wish you a happy, peaceful and prosperous married life, with Allah SWT blessing your union and granting you many years of happiness together.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
