Kano Pillars secretary tussle: Why is Little afraid of Dr. Sani?

It is for sure that all is not well with Kano Pillars Football Club and this is not unconnected with the unfortunate way and manner Babangida Little, the club chairman is leading the affairs of the club.

It is also a fact that Kano Pillars crisis began on the inaugural date of the new club’s management board which was in the month of June last year, when the chairman sidelined all those that were appointed together with him as the management board to pilot the affairs of the club.

That was how the situation continued until when the state government waded in and halted the ugly incident that had been embarrassing the government through the then acting commissioner of sports, Hon. Kachako.

That government’s effort to sanitize the team temporarily paid off as the sanity and peace that returned to the team quickly disappeared because Babangida Little connived with the officials of Kano Sports Commission and planted another trouble in the team.

As of now, it is sad and unfortunate that Kano Pillars FC is the only club in the whole world with two secretaries serving at the same time.

This is because Sports Commission with the connivance with the Kano Pillars chairman disrespected Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s order by reposting the sacked secretary of the team who served under the Ganduje administration back to his position from Dr. Sani Ibrahim, the secretary who governor Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf appointed. Sad.

Now the one million Naira questions that arose into my mind are, why is Babangida Little and sports commission desperate to chase away Dr. Sani Ibrahim out of Kano Pillars? Why is Little looking at his Management Board members as his enemies? And why is the Kano State Sports Commission always on point to assist him in doing the wrong things?

All I know is that world over, highly educated people are given top positions with high responsibilities and I wondered why Kano Pillars is different?

I still wondered why Babangida Little is seeing Dr. Sani Ibrahim and some management members of the club as a threat or his worst enemies.

Until he educates us why he is acting this way, we would be looking at the whole drama as a scenario to block or prevent us from seeing or knowing.

Babangida Little must know that having highly educated and experienced people on his board is not by  accident but to attain a high level of productivity and outcome.

Even the International Charter of Physical Education and Sports which is under UNESCO in its twentieth session in Paris, 21 November 1978 declared in Article 4 that, “All personnel who assume professional responsibility for physical education and sports must have appropriate qualification and training.”

But what is happening in Kano Pillars Football Club is on the contrary because Babangida Little, the chairman of the club does not recognize and appreciate the qualities of the people the government appointed in the board together with the secretary and that explains  why he has opted to work alone and with someone else.

And it is a pity that the prepared choice of the chairman is no match to the government appointee. And there is no basis for comparison between Dr. Sani Ibrahim, the secretary who the governor himself appointed and Abbati Sabo the Kano State Sports Commission appointed secretary.

While Abbati Sabo Fagge is only a graduate of Mass Communication and only served as the PRO of the state sports commission since his entry into the service some years, Dr. Sani Ibrahim has NCE Physical Education, Bsc Physical Education, Msc Sports Management and now a PhD candidate of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

Moreover, Dr. Sani has over three decades of participation and experience in sports management and organization in the country.

From the above summation of the qualifications and experience of the two individuals, one will clearly see who the secretary position fits among the two.

As I said, unless the chairman of Kano Pillars FC, Babangida Little is hiding something or doesn’t want people to know, I don’t see why he is personalizing Kano Pillars activities.

He should know that conniving with the sports commission to wrongly manage Kano Pillars is totally wrong and unacceptable.

He should not allow us to start believing what we are thinking. We are in the picture of the fact that Kano Pillars is now heavily funded by the government of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Sticking to work with Abbati instead of Dr. Sani is clear indication that the latter is not compromising while the former can.

    A stitch in time…

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
