KTSG’s ugly dismissal of Katsina United’s management

Following a 6-0 loss to Lagos’ Ikorodu City Football Club in Week 31 of the current Nigeria Premier Football League, the Katsina State government had sacked the so-called substantive management of Katsina United FC from their duties.

Gaddafi Muammar Rudwan, Abbas Tukur, Abdullahi Umar Leda Danja, Yasir Yahayya, and Abubakar Adidas are among those impacted by the disastrous announcement made last week.

They were instructed to transfer the club’s operations right away to Alh Rabiu Muhammad Rabiu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, and a team consisting of Saleh Yusuf and Aminu Leno.

The three appointed personalities are to supervise the affairs of the team until further directives by the government.

Honestly, I am extremely upset with this terrible and very awful scenario because due process was not adhered to from the start.

We are well aware of how the governments neglected and underfunded the teams in the majority of states. I am curious how teams can survive in these awful circumstances, let alone excel in the league.

Before taking that terrible circumstance, the government should, in my opinion, carefully examine whether they are meeting the team’s expectations.

As an alternative, if the government is at all concerned about the team’s situation, it could establish a commission to investigate the causes of the team’s devastating defeat.

I saw the entire incident as an effort to cover up the shortcomings of the Katsina State Government by blaming the fired executives.

I am confident that the club could avoid this kind of situation if the government gave them enough funding for hiring and other issues in a timely manner.

The Katsina State Government must act morally and do the right thing in order to achieve positive achievements. It is important for them to keep in mind that when much is given, much is expected.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
