    2023 NYG: Kano’s athletes show class…advance to next round

    Athletes that represented Kano state in the on-going National Youth Games held in Asaba, Delta state are showing class record victories in their respective sports events.

    According to reports from Muhammad Wasilu Kawo, Special Reporter to the Governor of Kano state, so far Kano’s Albert Akintola has won Silver Medal in Swimming. Ayomide Isac has won Bronze Medal in 50 meters Breast Stroke while Ayomide Emmanuel also won Bronze in a 50 meters backstroke for women category. In Judo, Yusuf Nababa also won a Bronze medal in the 45Kg category.

    In another development Kano has qualified for the finals of Fives and Rugby events while its football team has secured a quarter-finals ticket after a 1-1 draw with their Osun state counterparts.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
