The former Acting Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Dr. Murtala Musa, has formally handed over the leadership of the Commission to the newly appointed Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Babangida, during a brief but symbolic ceremony held at the Commission’s headquarters in Kano, reports Ahmad Babandi Gama.

The handover marked the official transition of leadership at the Commission, with management staff and other officials in attendance to witness the occasion.

In his remarks, Dr. Murtala Musa expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the confidence reposed in him by appointing him to lead the Commission in an acting capacity. He described the opportunity as a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of sports in the state.

He also thanked the management, members of staff, coaches, athletes, and other stakeholders for the cooperation, loyalty, and support they extended to him throughout his tenure, noting that whatever achievements were recorded during his stewardship were made possible through teamwork and collective commitment.

Dr. Musa urged the staff to extend the same level of dedication and cooperation to the new Chairman to enable him to succeed in moving the Commission to greater heights.

In his remarks after assuming office, the new Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Babangida, commended Dr. Musa for his service and the contributions he made toward the advancement of sports in Kano State.

He pledged to consolidate on the achievements recorded under the previous leadership while introducing new initiatives aimed at strengthening sports administration, talent development, grassroots sports, and the overall growth of the sector.

Alhaji Babangida called on the management and staff of the Commission to work together in unity and with renewed commitment to achieve the Commission’s mandate.

He emphasized that teamwork, transparency, and dedication would remain the guiding principles of his administration as he seeks to reposition Kano State as a leading force in sports development across Nigeria.

The ceremony concluded with the formal presentation of handover documents, symbolizing the smooth transfer of leadership and the beginning of a new chapter for the Kano State Sports Commission.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
