Court of Appeal: Open letter to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State

Sir, it has come to my knowledge and that of the general public that the Kano State Government has allocated the remaining and only land where our teeming youth and students of Government Technical College are using for sporting activities in Audu Bako Secretariat, for the building of a permanent site of the Court of Appeal.

On this note, I am writing this letter to appeal to His Excellency to consider allocating another suitable Land outside Audu Bako Secretariat for the building of the Court of Appeal base on the following reasons:

    1.      Considering the similar buildings of the Court of Appeal in other states which are big in nature as such require more space, the land allocated in the secretariat is small and can’t accommodate such a big edifice befitting as the Court of Appeal.

    2.      Building the Court in the secretariat will definitely congest the land space available which will no doubt disrupt the serene environment of the secretariat

    3.      By the nature of the Court of Appeal, whenever there will be a contentious case, the work of the entire secretariat will be brought to a halt, hence affecting the entire workforce of the numerous government offices there.

    4.      That presently, the allocated land remains the ONLY one used for sporting activities by our teeming youth and students of nearby schools for physical activities.

And that occupying the land will negatively affect sports development as well educational pursuit of those youth and students who we see as our future leaders.

With these reasons and many more, I pray His Excellency will consider relocating the gigantic project for the building of the Court of Appeal to a more wide, conducive,  convenient and serene area within the state.

I have confidence that His Excellency will look at it and do the needful.

    God bless Kano state

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
