The group stage of the on-going 11th Kano State Higher Institution Games (KASHIGA) otherwise known as  Governor’s Cup ended yesterday evening with four matches at different centers.

ECOHSAT  was subdued by the enterprising School of Hygiene boys with a 3-1 defeat while School of Health Technology Bebeji walked over their School of Health Technology Kano which made them collect the maximum three points.

Federal University of Education Kano narrowly defeated College of Nursing by 3 goals to 2.  While Kano Polytechnic recorded their first victory of the competition after piping the Yusuf Maitama Sule University team by a lone goal.

The competition enters the quarter finals today with FCAPT HOTORO facing ABCOA DAMBATTA this morning at the Yusuf Maitama Sule University.

The second quarter finals match will be decided between Saadatu Rimi College of Education and TROPICAL COHT by 10:00 AM at the Federal University of Education Kano.

According to the organizer of the competition, the other two (2) other quarter finals will wait pending the verdict of the protests received.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
