The Bayero University Kano (BUK) football team has bounced back from its opening-match defeat to FCAP with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Kano State Polytechnic in the ongoing 2026 Staff Games.

BUK, who were determined to put their disappointing first outing behind them, produced a commanding performance to secure their first victory of the competition, Abdulkadir Sulaiman, the desk officer of the game reports

The university side dominated proceedings from the opening whistle, displaying better organisation, ball control and attacking intent as Kano Poly struggled to match their intensity.

BUK maintained control of the encounter for most of the game and deservedly emerged winners.

The two goals underlined BUK’s dominance and gave the team a much-needed boost ahead of their subsequent matches.

At the Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education Centre, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso, and the School of Nursing played out a goalless draw.

Both teams created opportunities but lacked the cutting edge to break the deadlock, eventually settling for a point apiece.

At the Northwest University Kano Centre, Audu Bako College of Agriculture and Capital City also ended their encounter without a goal.

The two sides fought for supremacy in a closely contested game, but neither could find the back of the net before the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies and KACEPTS produced the most exciting result among the three drawn matches, sharing the points after a 1-1 draw.

With the competition gathering momentum, teams are now expected to intensify their efforts as they battle for points and a place in the next stage.

The 2026 Staff Games have so far provided a platform for staff members of various higher institutions to combine sporting competition with friendship, teamwork and healthy rivalry.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
