Former Super Eagles Captain, Ahmad Musa has called on corporate bodies in the country to complement government efforts towards the overall development of sports especially at the grassroots level.

He made the call during the Under-13 Milo X Ahmad Musa Sports Clinics held in Kano.

According to him, involving corporate organisations in sponsoring various sporting events especially at grassroot levels will facilitate the recruitment of younger players.

Ahmad Musa, who is also Milo Ambassador, explained that he decided to partner with the company to revive schools sports across the country, adding that God has blessed Nigeria with abundant, skillful and talented players who need encouragement and support to project the image of the country.

While expressing appreciation to Nestle Milo for their commitment and support, he urged other cooperate bodies to emulate the company.

He also announced his personal cash prize of one point 8 million Naira to be shared in this order: the winner, one Million, runner up N500,000; and N300,000 to the third place holder respectively at the end the tournament. Also up for grabs from the sponsors are other sports kits and Milo products.

Earlier, the Category Manager of Milo, Gilbert Teenaboah Koduah said partnering with Ahmad Musa as Milo Ambassador will contribute to design more schools sports programmes aimed at selecting the best younger players for future national and international engagements.

He pointed out that the company has been sponsoring national secondary schools basketball championship for boys and girls for over two decades, assuring that the outfit will continue to do their best in this direction.

Mr Koduah then commended the people of Kano state for their total support and cooperation.

Sixteen football teams are taking part in the championship with the winner, the runners up, and third place as well as all the participants expected to go home with prizes at the end of the championship.

Dignitaries who attended the opening ceremony include Milo Sports marketing manager, Mrs Funmilola Oyewole, among others.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
