Anytime from now, the Kano State Government is to reveal a formidable management committee for Kano Pillars Football Club, the deputy governor of Kano state Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo revealed this positive development last Saturday at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The Kano state number two citizen who was the guest of honour at the finals of the Peace Cup sponsored by the Nigeria Chief of Naval Staff which was organized by African Youth Sports Federation (AYSOF) stated the government is fully interested in sports development in the state.

“The government of His Excellency Engr. Abba Kabir Yusif is aware of the importance of the need of a management team for Kano Pillars FC (Sai Masu Gida) and will soon announce credible personalities for the tasks ahead.

“The team, we are aware, is to travel to Delta state for the Super Eight Competition and very soon the management team will be announced to take full control of the team,” he added.

The deputy governor then congratulated both Katsina and Kano state teams that emerged first and second for their victories in the finals of the Peace Cup and urged them to work harder.

Comrade Abdussalam also commended both the sponsor and the organizers of the competition for the good job and asked them to double their efforts in building soccer at the grassroots.

The competition began on 14/04/2023 at the Damaturu Stadium Yobe and its final match between Kano and Katsina was won by the latter  5-4 via penalty-kick.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
