Sports development: Skyline Varsity’s priority—VC Kumar

Professor Ajith Kumar V.V, the vice chancellor of Skyline University in Kano, has underlined his dedication to collaborate with major actors from various sectors in order to promote the sports industry in the state and the country at large.

He made his commitment known at the conclusion of the fifth Skyline University 5-aside basketball and football competitions, which were hosted on campus last weekend.

The professor claims that the institution’s management is keen to collaborate with the Kano State government and other significant stakeholders to develop more sports programs in an attempt to identify undiscovered talent for future national and international competitions.

He unfolded that the university has been supporting government initiatives in sports development by hosting youth and inter-secondary competitions.

In order to accomplish the intended goals, VC Kumar also suggested that the university will take part in the upcoming Kano State Higher Institutions Games (KASHIGA) and other National competitions.

He encouraged the participating schools to keep up the good work and praised them for their understanding and support during the five-day event.

Aisha International College finished third in the football competition, while ADY Science College emerged victorious after defeating their Yan Dutse rival by a single goal.

Similarly, Yan Dutse won the basketball competition overall, while Prime College and ADY Science College finished second and third, respectively.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
