    Ahmad Surajo : New YMSUK Head of Sports Directorate

    Ahmad Surajo is no doubt an outstanding sports administrator and technical man who assumed office on the 7th October, 2024 He assumed office on the 7th October, 2024. A primus inter pares, he is currently the new Head of Sports Directorate of the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano.

    A relatively young, amiable, intelligent and highly committed to excellence, Surajo is a promising individual with outstanding abilities to achieve greatness.

    And it is his deep understanding and excellent handling of his duties that is projecting and developing sports in the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano, as he ranks among the best brains to head of sports in the institution.

    Brilliant and very capable individual, Ahmad Sirajo was born on the  15th of June, 1978 at Gwale Quarters of the Gwale Local Government Kano State. He attended Islamiyya Primary School, Daura  between 1984 and 1990 for his First School Leaving Certificate 

    He was also at the Government Secondary School, Daura between 1990 and 1996 for his Post-Primary Education.

    Surajo then proceeded to the Federal College of Education Kano for his National Certificate of Education (NCE) between 2000 and 2003.

    To quench his thirst for more knowledge, he bagged a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc) in 2012 and a Masters Degree (MSc) in 2017 all from the famous Bayero University, Kano. 

    Ahmad Surajo is a dedicated, focused individual and a complete gentleman as well as organized sports manager with strong communication skills.

    He is also skillful in learning new strategies to achieve his team dreams and that of his organizational goal.

    Aside from being a dedicated and resourceful person with strong work ethics and a huge sense of responsibility, he has sound analytical and critical thinking skills.

    He is also a result oriented and innovative individual, one who has a creative mind, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills and socialization disposition.

    An efficient manager of men and resources, Surajo is currently a Principal Coach before his new rank at the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano.

    Like a golden fish, Ahmad Surajo’s exploits in sports management attracted more attention and that led to his appointment as the new Head of sports directorate of the institution.

    In fact, many have been attesting that from the very moment he took over the position of the head of sports of the university, things have drastically changed for the better.  

    As a man who understands the importance of sports to students, Surajo is successfully developing sports in the institution as the institution just concluded its inter-faculty games recently.  

    Ahmad Surajo was a member of Nigerian Sports Management and Administration (MNSM) as well as a member of Governing Council B3 Academy Institute of Northwest Zone.

    He was also the former Games Master at Senior Secondary School Management Board Kano State between 2005 and 2013.

    He was the former Sports Director of the Federal College of Education Kano between 2003 and 2004 as well as the former Senior Master Administration at the Senior Secondary Management Board assigned to School GDSS Rimi Sumaila between 2010 and 2013.

    A sports manager to the core, Surajo’s remarkable achievement strengthened his resolve to work harder which yielded fruits as he has won many laurels which include certificates and medals.

    He won Gold Medal and Certificate at the College of Education Competition Games (NICEGA) in the year 2005. And a Bronze Medal and Certificate at Universities Game at NUGA in 2017.

    He also collected a Certificate of participation at West African Universities Game at University of Calavy, Benin Republic in 2009.

    He received another Certificate of Official at the Kano State Secondary School Game in 2012 and another Certificate at Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions, ADAPTI” in 2018.

    The new head of sports directorate was also awarded with another Certificate of Digital Interactive Learning Process organized by MIS Directorate, at YUMSUK in 2019.

    He also got a Certificate of participation at Basketball Big Man Training Camp powered by NBA officials in the year 2023.

    An active player in sports and youth development, Surajo is the NASU, Branch Secretary of the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano from 2017 to date.

    Opinion from the various places he has worked and socialized point to the fact that he has made a significant contribution  to wherever he found himself.

    He is credited with the authorship of many projects and has BasketBall, Reading and Swimming as his hobbies.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
