Suspension of Abdallah: Yaro Yaro may substantively take over Pillars

Last week, the management of Kano Pillars Football Club led by Ali Muhammad Umar, also known as Nayara Mai Samba, declared that Usman Abdallah, their technical adviser, would remain suspended.

According to the club, the coach will continue to serve his suspension till after the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Kwara United on Match Day 28.

The team’s Media & Communications Directorate issued a statement announcing this event. The decision to extend the coach’s suspension was made at a management meeting on Sunday at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofar Mata.

“The extension follows a request from the committee set up to investigate the matter, chaired by the club’s Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Danjuma Gwarzo, which is yet to conclude its findings, the release added.

Therefore, pending further decisions regarding Abdallah’s return, Ahmed Garba Yaro Yaro, the club’s acting chief coach, was instructed to continue leading the team in the forthcoming games against Akwa United on Wednesday, Rangers International over the weekend, and Kwara United on Match Day 28.

“The club remains committed to upholding professionalism and discipline as it continues its campaign in the Nigeria Premier Football League,” the release concluded.

However, a reliable source close to the team’s administration noted that it is doubtful that Coach Usman Abdallah will return to his post despite the aforementioned scenario for a number of reasons.

My research also showed that the management was not satisfied with his performance or the manner in which coach Abdallah was carrying out his responsibilities.

The management is still furious with coach Abdallah even after he publicly apologized to the supporters at a Nasara Radio Sports Program called “TaskarWasanni” for the regrettable episode involving him and the supporters.

These could potentially be the result of the following elements impacting the management decision.

Performance: Coach Abdallah’s poor performance and inability to meet management expectations are his greatest undoing which both the management and supporters are sad about..

Relationship with Supporters: His poor and bad relationship with supporters is another case, which may be jeopardizing his stay in the club.

Disciplinary Issues: The outcome of the committee of investigation which the management instituted some weeks ago is still being awaiting and may not favor Coach Abdallah.

From the above, my prediction on the future or the fate of the suspended Chief Coach, Usman Abdullah in Kano Pillars Football Club are:-

Likely to be sacked: From the Kano Pillars management’s dissatisfaction with Coach Abdallah’s performance in the league, poor relationship with supporters, and doubts about escaping relegation, it is likely that he will be sacked from his job.

No Return: From the way and manner the management of the club is extending his suspension, it is unlikely that Coach Abdallah will return to his position, even after the specified matches.

New Appointment: The appointment of assistance coach, Ahmed Garba, Yaro-Yaro as the acting coach of Kano Pillars Football Club and his performance signified that Coach Abdallah days in the club are numbered.

Relegation Battle: Kano Pillars management is concerned about relegation, and Coach Abdallah’s departure might be seen as a necessary step to avoid relegation and maintain their elite division status.

From the above, the followings may likely occur. Immediate Sack: Coach Abdallah may be sacked anytime the investigation committee submits its reports to the management which will ultimately give way for the appointment of a new Technical Adviser for the club.

Temporary Replacement: The club may appoint an interim coach to oversee the team until a permanent replacement is found as is the case now.

Last but not least, I don’t think Coach Usman Abdallah will stay with the team until something happens or top brass steps in.

The reason may not be unconnected with the way and manner Yaro Yaro has branded the team for the better which the management is highly satisfied.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
