The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano Strategic Command received Mazaje Traditional Sport Promotion Limited, led by the esteemed Bashir Muhammad Danliti (Sarkin Damben Nigeria) on a courtesy visit, in a collaborative effort to raise awareness about drug abuse ahead of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

According to a release signed by the Public Relations Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the Strategic Commander, CN AI Ahmad, who was represented by the Head of the Drug Demand Reduction Unit, ACN Maimuna Garba during the visit, expressed gratitude for the commitment demonstrated by Mazaje Traditional Sport Promotion Limited in the fight against drug abuse. The partnership aims to harness the power of traditional sports, particularly Dambe, to engage the youth and promote a drug-free lifestyle.

CN AI Ahmad commended the Officer in Charge of sports, DSN Jamilu Uba Adamu, for his innovative approach in leveraging sports as a platform to disseminate crucial messages about drug awareness and prevention to reach the hearts and minds of our youth, instilling values of discipline, respect, and healthy living.

The collaboration will involve an event and activities designed to educate the community about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of seeking help and support. The NDLEA and Mazaje Traditional Sport Promotion Limited are committed to fostering a safer, healthier environment for all citizens.

As we approach the UNODC International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command encourages all stakeholders to join in this vital initiative. Together, we can create a lasting impact in the fight against drug abuse and promote a culture of wellness and resilience in our communities.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
