ON SUCCESSFUL HOSTING OF NIGERIAN NATIONAL LEAGUE PLAY-OFF IN KANO

    By Jamilu Uba Adamu,Kano.

The Nigeria National league playoff has come and gone in the ancient and vibrant football loving city of Kano.

First of all, i must commend and appreciate the Nigeria National league management under the chairmanship of Mr. George Aluo and his entire management board for standing their ground and not to give in to delusory concerns earlier raised about diphtheria outbreak in Kano to successfully host the NNL PLAYOFF in Kano.

Credit must also be given to the Kano State government under his Excellency Engineer. Abba Kabir Yusuf for sponsoring and hosting the Playoff tournament and Kano State Football Association under the able Chairmanship of Dr. Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan and the secretary Alh.Shehu Buhari for making sure everything went on smoothly.

I have  nothing but praise for the Kano football loving fans that watched the football matches during the four day Play-Offs, from officiating, organisation and everything in between was super perfect.

This confirms and validates the fact that Kano State is capable of hosting a Football tournament of any nature.

It will be recalled that Nigeria National league playoff is relegation football playoff which took place at the  Sani Abacha Stadium,Kano from 6-10 August between 8 football teams that comprised  Adamawa United, from  Adamawa State, Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin, Kwara State, Edel of Awka, Anambra State, FWC-Champions Of Abuja,  Henserd Of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Ikorodu City, Lagos State, Smart City, Lagos State and Sokoto United, Sokoto State.

It’s widely believed that the Nigeria National league NNL is the most important league in Nigeria. It is a league between the first tier Nigerian Premier Football league and the third tier Nigerian league One NLO

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
