Kano Pillars N30m RAMBO deal: We’re not aware of it—Wapa

A member of Kano Pillars Football Club Interim Management Board who is also the club’s marketing and Media committee chairman, Alhaji Naziru Wapa has revealed that he is not aware of the widely reported N30 million Naira deal between the team and Gongoni Limited, the producers of RAMBO insecticides.

According to Naziru Wapa, ordinarily, as a member of the Kano Pillars FC management committee and also the chairman of the Marketing and Media Committee, I and my committee members must be aware of such a deal but regretted that that was not the case.

     are unaware about the deal.

Wapa in a cellphone interview told www.sportseye.ng  that as the chairman of the committee which is saddled with the responsibilities of such a deal, he was not aware of any agreement of such magnitude between Kano Pillars and Gongoni Ltd.

“We only knew about the deal during the Kano Pillars and Bayelsa United match days when we saw a bold name of a product (RAMBO) printed in front of the Kano Pillars players’ jersey,” Wapa added.

“I and others members of my committee, other board members together with other stakeholders in the state were caught by surprised when and how the club entered into a deal of lump sum of money without their notice,” Naziru Wapa explained.

But our finding revealed that except the amount, up to now nobody knows anything about the deal.

To the surprise of many, the deal was said to be made secretly between chairman Babangida Little and the company, an action which made many doubt its sincerity.

Even the promise the club chairman made in faraway Lagos during his away league match, where he promised to give a detailed account of the deal on their return, up now nothing has been said.

But contacted via cellphone call to comment, the secretary of the board Comrade Sani Ibrahim refutes Wapa’s claims and added that the chairman has briefed all the members of the board about the deal.

Only that the secretary could not categorically state how, where and when the deal was made and in the presence of who and who.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
