    Fitness Test: Over 1,500 Referees, Assessors to converge in Kano ‘morrow

    The Secretary to the Kano State government, Alhaji Umar Faruk is expected to declare  this year’s northern states Fitness Test and  the sensitization of modern football laws for Referees and Assessors open ahead of 2025/2026 Nigerian  National League NNL and Nationwide League One NLO.

    The programme was sponsored by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as part of his administration commitment not only for the sports development but to encourage the teeming youth to involve and distance themselves from anti-social vices in the society.

    The acting chairman of the state Sports Commission. Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Fagge FIFA dropped these hints while briefing  newsmen on the commission’s arrangements put in place for the Fitness Seminars.

    Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Fagge FIFA  said that attendance are drawn from 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja while sources persons and major stakeholders include the President of the Nigerian Football Federation NFF Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau is among the special guests of honour at the occasion.

    He said the  commission has been working day and night  with a view to ensure the success of the programme.

    The acting chairman said that the programme will feature lectures, demonstration of new football laws, fitness race among others.

    The arrival of participants are expected from November 7th to 17th, 2025 and are expected to hold at Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar mata

    While commending  Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for bankrolling the programme, and the state commissioner of youth and, Alhaji Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso for their unwavering support and cooperation, he assured that the commission will continue to do everything possible to continue l projecting the good image of the state as far sports was concerned in the state and the country at large.

    ” The annual mandatory evaluation for Referees  and Assersors in the NNL and NLO categories is compulsory and  organized by the Nigerian Football Federation NFF Referees’ Committee to improve officiating in the Nigerian leagues,” he explained.

    ”The  match officials need to be  both mentally and physically in order to  prepare for the challenges of the coming football season,” the chairman added.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
