    Maymunat

As nurses around the world celebrate International Nurses Week, Nurse Maymunat Abubakar will undoubtedly be among those deserving special recognition and admiration on this historic and memorable occasion.

Her dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the nursing profession have distinguished her as a remarkable caregiver and a source of inspiration to many within and beyond her workplace.

It is therefore with great joy and admiration that I join countless others, especially her friends, co-workers, seniors, colleagues, and subordinates in celebrating her and honouring her invaluable contributions to humanity.

This important occasion offers an opportunity not only to appreciate her professional excellence but also to acknowledge the sacrifices, kindness, and selfless service she continues to render in the noble calling of nursing.

Therefore, as we mark this special occasion, we celebrate not just a nurse, but a dedicated professional whose work truly embodies the spirit of care, compassion, and selfless service.

For sure, Nurse Maymunat Abubakar represents the values and commitment that define the nursing profession, touching lives and inspiring hope through her unwavering devotion to duty.

May she continue to excel, achieve greater heights, and remain a source of inspiration to others in her noble and invaluable profession. Her journey in the nursing profession has been deeply inspiring from the very beginning.

She started her career with strong professional grounding, earning qualifications as RN, RM, RPON, RNA, and RNE, and later advanced academically with a BNSc, MSc in Public Health, and an MTech in Guidance and Counselling, with a PhD (in view).

Despite these impressive academic and professional milestones, she has remained remarkably humble, compassionate, and consistently committed to improving the lives of others, the qualities that truly set her apart.

Her career is marked by several other groundbreaking achievements and leadership roles. She became the first female nurse in Bauchi State to attain the Fellowship of the West African College of Nursing and Midwifery (FWACNM), a historic accomplishment that opened new pathways for others in the profession.

She also served as the former Director of Nursing Services at ATBUTH Bauchi, former Chairman of the National Association of Perioperative Nurses of Nigeria (NAPON), and a former Board Member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

In addition, she was the pioneer Provost of the College of Nursing Sciences, Jahi, Abuja.

Her story continues to stand as a powerful source of inspiration, breaking barriers and creating opportunities for younger generations of nurses and healthcare professionals.

Even while currently serving in Zanzibar, Tanzania as a volunteer, her influence and legacy continue to be strongly felt back home.

Her impact extends beyond borders, reflecting a lifelong commitment to service, mentorship, and healthcare development.

Through her dedication, Maymunat Abubakar has raised competent nurses, built capable leaders, inspired students, and demonstrated that leadership can be exercised with both strength and compassion.

As we mark this International Nurses Week, it is important to express sincere appreciation for her years of sacrifice, dedication, and encouragement.

Her contributions to nursing and leadership have touched countless lives, and her legacy continues to shape the profession in meaningful ways.

With individuals like her in the profession, nursing is not only strengthened but also enriched in both value and impact.

Her dedication, leadership, and consistency have earned her widespread respect and admiration, which is why many people are genuinely proud of her achievements and the positive difference she continues to make in the lives of others.

Happy International Nurses Week, Maymunat Abubakar. May God continue to strengthen you, guide you, and honour you in all your endeavours.

    Allah ya ja kwana. Ameen.

    Happy Maymunat Abubakar Nurses week\

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
