NISPRISPORT 2026, an intensive training exercise which was held from Monday, 24th to Friday, 28th August, 2026 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, saw six para-military agencies: the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, National Parks Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps engaged in both basic theoretical and practical ringo sport skills aimed at becoming professionals in the sport of ringo.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the efforts to revive Ringo Sport, a game that was once a source of national pride in Nigeria, with the view to integrating it into the professional development frameworks of the country’s sporting arena and particularly, within the security and service agencies.

In his address at the closing ceremony, the National President of Ringo Sport Club Nigeria and Chief Coach, Ahmed Mohammed Sule, congratulated the graduates and commended their discipline and commitment throughout the training. He emphasized that the program was designed not only to impart foundational skills but also to prepare participants for future local, national, and global competitions.

Malam Ahmed who urged the newly certified professionals to engage in continuous training to further upscale their skills in their chosen Ringo Sport professions, noted that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote sports tourism and harness the potential of sports for national development, peacebuilding and youth engagement.aaa2

He thanked management of the six agencies for given their sports men and women the opportunity to learn the ringo sports skills, what he calls ‘Ringo the Old New Sport in Nigeria’ and urged para military agencies that couldn’t participate in the just concluded training exercise, to endeavour sending their sports women and women in subsequent ringo sport training programs.

Leaders of the respective agencies in the ringo sport training program expressed their delights and excitements at the opportunity offered them by the ringo sport club to learn a new sport, which they said will add to their sporting talent kitties as well as look forward to excel in the sport at both local and international competitions.aaa3

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
