The chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF), Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, has declared clearance for the payment of unpaid benefits to pensioners of the defunct New Nigerian Newspaper (NNN).

In a conversation with reporters, Governor Yahaya revealed this breakthrough, which the NNN retirees had been eagerly awaiting for a long time.

An estimated 110 people have died while waiting for their N2.5 billion pensions, and the retirees have been waiting for years, while numerous others require immediate medical intervention.

“We have approved the payment and it will be made soon,” the governor added.

Recall that in order to make these payments, the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) allegedly sold the newspaper and its assets for almost N7 billion.

According to our results, the development has given hope to long-suffering pensioners who have suffered adversity while waiting for benefits.

Our reporter spoke with the affected employees and their families, who expressed their joy and happiness with the development while also praying for its immediate implementation.

I was at the production unit of the Triumph Publishing Company, Kano but my keen interest in sports journalism made me to be sports writer and maintained a sports column called (Sports Eye) after my mentor Sani Muhammad Zaria transferred his service to New Nigeria newspapers in Kaduna. And when the government closed the Triumph in 2012, I was transfered to lectured DTP in the Department of Printing Technology of Kano State Polytechnic. And now that I retired, i used to visit the institution weekends for part-time lecturing.
