Former Chairman of Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Ismaila Ammai Maizare has advocated for thorough scrutiny of practicing journalists in the state so as to flush out quacking journalists in the state.

Comrade Ismaila Ammai Maizare who is the General Manager of Nasara Radio aka Amanar Talaka gave the advice when the newly elected executive members of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a courtesy visit in his Murtala Muhammad Way office.

The General Manager of Nasara Radio lamented the high number of quake Journalists in the state hence the urgent need to arrest the situation.

“There is a high number of people parading themselves as journalists, a situation which is worrisome and disturbing”, he added.

Comrade  Maizare then noted with satisfaction the proliferation of private media outfits especially broadcast in Kano saying that the development is a positive one  as it provides job opportunities to veteran and upcoming journalists.

The media technocrat then advised the newly elected Council of the NUJ to constitute a membership drive committee that will sensitize media owners on the benefit of individual and collective registration with the union..

He called on journalists to avail themselves with the training program of the Union so as to add value for themselves.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman Kano State council of the NUJ Comrade Sulaiman Dederi said they are on the media tour across the state so as to maintain and propagate professionalism among media and practitioners

He commended Comrade Ismaila Ammai Maizare for his support to the council as a veteran journalist and as the former Chairman of the council.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
