Tribute to Comrade Hussaini Abdulllahi, ex-HOD Printing Technology

Malama Zainab Ahmad Mukaddam of the Department of Printing Technology, School of Technology of Kano State Polytechnic rightly described the demise of Malam Hussaini Abdullahi as a big loss which is undeniably challenging to recuperate.

This is because he was like a father who was until his death was a symbol in printing technology and furthermore to scholarly climate not only in Kano but the country at large.

He was many things to us. Some of us viewed at him as a partner or colleague while others sees him as a companion but many saw him as a character molder and a teacher who instilled printing technology discipline in them which today is their means of livelihood.

But for me, Late Malam Hussaini was my senior in SOT many decades ago when we were undergoing our diploma programs and was also my senior colleague  in SOT when I was transferred to the institution he was lecturing from the Triumph in the 2012.

That was why when I heard that he was no more I was stunned and disheartened as I knew him as a committed colleague who was always serious to his duties and always supporting everyone working or learning under him without hesitation.

Malam Hussaini as many called him had a gift of innovative thinking, a visionary spirit, and the unwavering attitude required that successfully lead him to  a meaningful stay in the polytechnic.

In addition to his devotion to his work he always found time for his colleagues, his friends, and his family–especially his wives and children.

Having worked with him and under him for about a decade, I learned much from him and his love for his family and his students were unhidden. They were never far from his thoughts in everything he did.

Indeed death has taken away a genuinely warm individual, more importantly a hardworking individual who was serious and upright to anything he does..

While I mourn the loss of a former colleague, I also pay tribute and celebrate a life that was well lived and spent. A life committed to the cause of imparting knowledge not only to his people alone but the country as a whole.

We all know that not all leave behind a legacy of such dedication and accomplishment, but Late Malam Hussaini Abdullahi did.

One thing that even his detractors cannot take away from him is his seriousness to anything he found himself in or assigned to do by his superiors.

Late Abdullahi was a modest man; a real gentleman, one who was never reluctant to his official and adhoc duties. His determination to work, demonstrated his commitment to his responsibilities.

For sure no amount of words put on paper here that can perfectly pay tribute or truly capture the sense of the loss that we feel about him, that is why it is very difficult for  one express the amazing essence and spirit of Hussaini Abdullahi, his selfless generosity, uncompromising belief in all that is good, and unwavering commitment to family and friends.

As no doubt that late Abdullahi had lived an exemplified and fulfilling life, full of love, laughter, and an irrepressible belief and faith in seeing the best in everything.

So, I wish a farewell in his journey to eternity. He will be in our hearts and memories forever because it was a privilege for me and others to have been a part of his life.

For his immediate family, I know that this time is particularly going to be  a difficult and painful one for them but I am extending to them my heartfelt condolences, I pray and wish them courage and strength to bear this irreparable loss.

Allah yasa mutuwa hutu ce, ameen.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
