Kano Pillars: My words for Governor Abba

It is no more news that the administration of His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf have fired most government officials appointed by the former governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

And it is also no more news that they have all complied and handed over to the most senior officers in their respective offices.

The Executive order has no doubt left nearly all government MDAs and companies headed by political appointees appointed by previous administration to be empty or incapacitated to function as expected.

While some MDAs and companies can operate or survive without an appointed committee or politician to oversee them, some cannot function or operate well and talk less of succeeding.

Some of those sectors or MDAs which are seriously affected by the removal of their appointees and needed urgent treatment or attention by His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusif are Kano Pillars Football Club and Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board.

I am happy His Excellency have acted past by appointing people of integrity to take over the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board with immediate effect.

Your Excellency, the executive governor of Kano state, this same treatment is urgently needed in Kano Pillars Football Club.

Because Kano Pillars too are in high need of people with integrity and genuine love for sports to take over the affairs of the team and keep the flag flying.

It might interest His Excellency to know that Kano Pillars FC is currently leading its group in the ongoing NNL League and if the tempo is held tightly, the team will proceed to the next stage before moving to the Super Eight.

Your Excellency will also needs to know that it is the top four in the Super Eight that will qualify to return to the Premier League which every soccer fan in Kano state is praying and hoping to see.

Your Excellency Sir, the tasks of piloting and managing the affairs of the team is too enormous for the secretary of the club which to my understanding received the handover notes from Kabiru Baita’s sacked management team.

The club is in serious need of a management team composed of people who know the real politics of sports in the country.

And I am happy to inform His Excellency that in Kano we have them in abundance and I am sure if contacted they will not let you and the state down.

Sir, to triumph in the national league in this country we need their expertise and we have them in society and also in academia.

All His Excellency needs to do is to look for them and hand the club over to them and see surprises.

I want to remind His Excellency that in appointing people to serve as management committee of the club, they should be appointed to serve as management committee and not a caretaker committee. It is against the rules governing the league.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
