The Ringo Sport Club Nigeria has commenced the landmark Nigerian Service Personnel Ringo Sport Training Program (NISPRISPORT) 2026, an initiative designed to integrate service personnel into the mainstream of Nigerian ringtennis sport and foster a new generation of professional athletes.

The training program, which kicked off today at Package ‘B’ of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, has attracted over 60 officers and men from various Nigerian Para-Military Agencies. This intensive program is designed to equip participants with core skills, technical knowledge, and competitive strategies required to excel in ringo sport.

Speaking at the opening of the training program, the National President of Ringo Sport Club Nigeria, Malam Ahmed Mohammed Sule, extended a warm welcome to all participants and underscored the transformative potential of the training and urged the trainees to approach the program with discipline, commitment and dedication which are key values of both military service and sporting excellence.

Malam Ahmed who described the training not only a mere exercise but a career-defining opportunity to become certified professionals and ambassadors of Ringo Sport, said the trainees are the future champions to represent Nigeria on the world stage of the ringo and ringtennis tournaments.

In a broader call to action, the National President of Ringo Sport Club appealed to the public and private sectors to support the growth of Ringo Sport in Nigeria, noting that the sport, which once thrived in the country during the 1970s, offers immense potential for grassroots development, youth engagement and economic growth through sports tourism, adding that greater collaboration between government agencies and private stakeholders is essential to unlocking the socio-economic benefits of Ringo Sport, which is already attracting support from key institutions like the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA) among others.

The NISPRISPORT 2026 is the beginning of multi-sectoral agency training programs across all levels and strata of the Nigerian public and private sectors to reaffirm the Club’s commitment to developing sportsmanship and physical fitness in the Nigerian sport space.

The training program continues on Wednesday after the Tuesday public holiday break to mark the Eid-el Maulud celebration.

The Ringo Sport Club is a premier sports club dedicated to promoting the once-popular sport of ringo in Nigeria, foster cross-sectoral collaborations and general sports development as well as explore the intersection that exists between sports and tourism to grow the Nigerian economy.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
