    Japanese Embassy Karate Championship: Babangida-led Kano Sports Commission Wins 15 Medals

    The recent change in leadership at the Kano State Sports Commission by the Kano State Government has begun to yield positive results, as athletes selected by the commission to represent the state at the Japanese Embassy Karate Championship delivered an impressive performance, winning a total of 15 medals.

    According to Ahmad Babandi Gama, Media and Publicity Assistant to the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, the victorious team, comprising athletes, coaches and officials of the Karate Association, visited the commission last Monday to present their medals to the Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida.

    The Kano State team competed in the Senior, Junior and Cadet categories of the Japanese Embassy Karate Championship, where they secured 15 medals comprising one gold, five silver and nine bronze medals.

    Receiving the team, the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida, expressed his delight and satisfaction with the impressive performance of the Kano contingent.

    Babangida described the achievement as a significant development for sports in the state, noting that the success would bring joy to the people of Kano, particularly sports enthusiasts who have been following developments in the sector.

    He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting athletes and creating an enabling environment for young talents to develop and excel, in line with the Kano State Government’s efforts to promote sports and youth development across the state.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
