Adnan Aziz: A young Beninese-Nigerian striker on the rise

    aziz

Adnan Aziz is a Beninese professional footballer who plays primarily as a forward or centre-forward. Born on January 1, 2002, in Djougou, Benin, he has a mixed Beninese-Nigerian family background, with a Beninese mother and Nigerian father.

Standing at 1.86 metres and weighing approximately 80 kilograms, Aziz possesses a strong physical profile suited to the modern centre-forward role. His career has taken him from Benin into European football, with experiences in Italy, the Czech Republic and France.

He has also represented Benin at youth international level, including the U20 and U23 national teams.

Early Career in Benin: Aziz began his football development in Benin, where he featured for Tchemabi FC and later Soleil FC.

These early experiences provided the foundation for his development as an attacking player. They also prepared him for the transition to European football and the greater tactical and physical demands of playing abroad.

European Career: Aziz continued his development in Italy with Pro Cittiglio, gaining his first significant experience of European football.

The move exposed him to a new football environment and provided an opportunity to develop his technical, tactical and physical qualities.

He subsequently moved to the Czech Republic, where he played for FK Králův Dvůr in the Czech football league system.

The experience allowed him to adapt to another European football culture and further develop his game, particularly in terms of physical competition and tactical discipline.

Aziz later continued his career in France with Angers MFC and Olympique Saumur.

His time in French football broadened his experience and exposed him to another style of play, while allowing him to continue developing as a forward.

Return to Italy: Aziz later returned to Italy, joining ASD Licata Calcio before continuing his career with ASD Juvenilia Roseto, where he currently plays.

His career path demonstrates his ability to adapt to different football environments and continue his development across several European countries.

International Career: Aziz has been selected for and involved with the Benin U20 national team during his youth career.

His U20 involvement marked an important stage in his development as an international player. Detailed statistics for his U20 appearances and goals should be confirmed from official records.

Aziz also represented the Benin U23 national team.

According to the available information, he made three appearances and scored one goal in 2022.

He notably scored during a preparation match as Benin’s U23 side prepared for the qualifying campaign for the Africa U23 Cup of Nations.

His U23 experience provided valuable international exposure and complemented his development at club level.

    Playing Profile

Aziz is primarily a centre-forward, although he can adapt to different attacking roles when required.

His physical stature is one of his major attributes. At 1.86 m, he can compete effectively in aerial duels, challenge defenders physically and provide a strong presence inside the penalty area.

    His key attacking qualities include:

    • Physical strength
    • Aerial ability
    • Attacking depth
    • Finishing
    • Offensive mobility
    • Penalty-area presence
    • Ability to hold up play
    • Attacking versatility
    • Centre-forward play
    • Right-footed finishing

His combination of height, strength and movement gives him the characteristics of a traditional central striker while allowing him to adapt to different tactical systems.

    Tactical Characteristics

Aziz can be particularly effective in systems that require a physically strong striker capable of competing with opposing defenders.

His height can make him a useful target for crosses, set pieces and long passes, while his movement can allow him to attack spaces behind defensive lines.

His experience across Italy, the Czech Republic and France has also exposed him to different tactical approaches and football cultures.

A detailed assessment of his current performance, however, would require up-to-date match footage and verified statistics covering areas such as goals, assists, chance creation, passing, pressing and shooting efficiency.

Adnan Aziz is a 24-year-old Beninese forward whose career has developed across both African and European football.

A promising and determined player, Aziz’s journey from youth football in Benin to European club football and international youth representation has given him valuable experience and exposure. These experiences have helped shape him into a confident and adaptable forward capable of making an impact whenever he is called upon.

At 1.86 m, with a strong physical frame and a preference for playing centrally, Aziz possesses the basic attributes of a modern centre-forward. His ability to compete in aerial duels, attack spaces behind defenders, hold up play and operate effectively inside the penalty area adds variety and strength to his attacking game.

With continued development, regular playing opportunities and consistent performances, Aziz can further establish himself at senior level. His experience and potential could also earn him greater consideration for the Benin senior national team in the future.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
