For Jamilu Uba Adamu, hard work, dedication and years of commitment to sports administration have once again earned him recognition, as the Sports Officer of the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) secured two key appointments in Kano sports.

Uba Adamu, who has remained actively involved in sports alongside his official responsibilities at the NDLEA, has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Kano State Tug of War Association and Team Manager of Kano Pillars FC Amputee Football Club.

The two appointments are a clear indication of the confidence reposed in his experience, competence and understanding of sports administration in the state.

His appointment as Vice Chairman of the Kano State Tug of War Association places him in a position to contribute to the development and promotion of the strength-based sport, while his role as Team Manager of Kano Pillars FC Amputee Football Club comes with the responsibility of helping to organise and manage the team effectively.

Uba Adamu has over the years built a reputation within Kano’s sporting community through his active participation and commitment to sports development. His ability to combine his professional duties at the NDLEA with his passion for sports has made him a familiar figure among sports stakeholders in the state.

The double appointment is therefore not just a recognition of his personality but also a reward for his consistency and contributions to sports.

For the new appointee, however, the recognition comes with greater responsibilities. He will be expected to bring his experience, discipline and administrative skills to bear in both positions and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the respective sports.

His appointment to the management of Kano Pillars FC Amputee Football Club is particularly significant, as the team provides an important platform for athletes living with disabilities to showcase their talent and compete at the highest level.

Uba Adamu will now have the opportunity to contribute to the welfare, organisation and development of the players while helping the team achieve its sporting objectives.

His story is another reminder that consistent hard work and genuine commitment can eventually earn recognition. For Jamilu Uba Adamu, the two appointments represent both an honour and a fresh call to service in the development of sports in Kano State.

When contacted to comment on his feelings about the two appointments, Officer Jamilu Uba Adamu expressed gratitude to Allah and appreciation to the leadership of the Kano State Sports Commission for the confidence reposed in him.

He described the appointments as a great honour and an opportunity to contribute more meaningfully to the development of sports in Kano State.

“Alhamdulillah! I am deeply grateful to Almighty Allah for this opportunity and highly elated with the two appointments. I sincerely appreciate the leadership of the Kano State Sports Commission for the confidence they have reposed in me.

“I consider these appointments not only as an honour but also as a call to greater responsibility. I promise to give my best towards the development and promotion of the two sporting events and to justify the confidence placed in me.

“I look forward to serving our athletes with dedication, professionalism and commitment, while also promoting inclusion through sports and creating opportunities for athletes, particularly those who deserve greater recognition and support.

“I am ready to work with other stakeholders to contribute positively to the growth of sports in Kano State,” he concluded.

It could be recalled that Jamilu Uba Adamu is also a member of various sports committees in Kano state some of which are that of the Security Committee of the Sani Abacha Stadium, as well as the Security Committee of Kano State Football Association.

His involvement in these committees further reflects his growing responsibilities and contributions to sports administration and security in Kano State.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
