The Kano State Higher Institutions Games Association (KASHIGA) on Tuesday conducted its elective congress at the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (CAS Kano), where new executive members were elected to steer the affairs of the association for the next two years.
At the end of the exercise, Malam Bashir Abba, the Director of Sports at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, emerged as the Chairman of the association. His emergence is expected to bring renewed direction and coordination to inter-institutional sports development across the state.
The position of Vice Chairman was clinched by Malam Aliyu Muhammad of the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies, Kano (KASCEPS), while Malam Jamilu Abdulhamid Bello, also from KASCEPS, was elected as Secretary of the association.
Ibrahim Muhammad Nalado of Northwest University, Kano, was elected as Assistant Secretary, while Abdulkabir Sulaiman from Emirates College of Health Sciences, Kano, emerged as Treasurer.
Other elected officials include Dr. Ado Kankarofi of Kano State Polytechnic, who will serve as the Auditor, and Aisha Dauda of Khairun University, Kano, who was elected as the Image Maker of the association.
Furthermore, Hamisu Nayaya of the College of Nursing Sciences, Kano, and Muhammad Dalahat of Azman University, Kano, were elected to serve as Ex-officio I and Ex-officio II respectively.
However, the congress recorded a notable absence, as no representative from Bayero University, Kano, or Yusuf Maitama Sule University of Education, Kano, was elected into the new executive council a development that has raised concerns among stakeholders, considering the strategic importance of the two institutions in the state’s higher education and sports landscape.
The newly elected executives are expected to work collectively to strengthen KASHIGA, promote unity among higher institutions, and enhance competitive sports development in Kano State.
