KASHIGA Staff Games Set for Opening Ceremony at Sani Abacha Stadium

The opening ceremony of the Kano State Higher Institutions Games Association (KASHIGA) Staff Games is expected to take place tomorrow evening at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, with staff members from higher institutions across the state set to compete in a variety of sporting events.

The competition, tagged the “22 Fallen Athletes Cup,” is being organised by KASHIGA as part of its efforts to promote sports, physical fitness, friendship and healthy competition among staff of higher institutions in Kano State.

According to the secretary of the association Dr. Jamilu Abdulhamid Bello the games will feature a range of sporting and athletic events designed to test participants’ skills, endurance, strength and teamwork.

The events lined up include football, badminton, table tennis, 50-metre and 100-metre races, walking events and tug of war.

Football is expected to attract considerable attention, while the individual and team events will provide opportunities for participants with different sporting abilities to compete and represent their respective institutions.

Apart from the opening ceremony at Sani Abacha Stadium, activities will also take place at other designated venues across the state.

The additional venues include Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, North-West University, Kano, and Yusuf Maitama Sule University of Education.

The use of multiple venues is expected to facilitate the smooth conduct of the various events and enable participating institutions to fully engage in the competition.

The “22 Fallen Athletes Cup” also carries a symbolic significance, as it is intended to serve as a tribute to athletes who have passed away. Beyond promoting sporting activities among staff, the organisers are using the competition to honour the memory and contributions of the fallen athletes.

The KASHIGA Staff Games are expected to bring together staff from various higher institutions in Kano State in an atmosphere of sportsmanship, camaraderie and healthy rivalry.

Beyond the competition itself, the organisers hope the games will strengthen relationships among staff of participating institutions, encourage regular physical activity and contribute to the development of a stronger sporting culture within the state’s higher education sector.

At the time of filing this report, the organisers had not disclosed the exact number of staff expected to participate in the competition. However, they had released the names of 18 institutions that have registered for the games.

The participating institutions include Azman University, Kano; Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta; Tropical College of Health Sciences; Kano State College of Nursing Sciences; Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University; and Kano State Polytechnic.

Others are Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo; North-West University, Kano; Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education; Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS); Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS); and Yusuf Maitama Sule College of Education and Advanced Studies, Ghari (YUMCEAS).

The remaining registered institutions are Capital City University, Kano; Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi; Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso College of Advanced and Remedial Studies (RMK CARS); Federal University of Education, Kano; Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology, Kano; and Bayero University, Kano.

The participation of the 18 institutions is expected to add colour and competitiveness to the games, bringing together staff from universities, colleges of education, polytechnics and other higher institutions across Kano State.

Although the organisers are yet to make public the total number of participating staff, the registration of 18 institutions represents a broad level of participation. The games are expected to provide an opportunity for staff members to interact, compete and strengthen professional and social relationships through sports.

The competition will also provide a platform for participants to demonstrate their sporting talents while promoting healthy lifestyles and teamwork among staff across the participating institutions.

With the opening ceremony scheduled for tomorrow evening at the Sani Abacha Stadium, attention will now shift to the participating institutions as they prepare to battle for honours in the various sporting and athletic events.

The KASHIGA Staff Games are therefore expected to combine sporting competition with fitness, friendship, institutional unity and a fitting tribute to the memory of the fallen athletes.
