    From Muawuya bala ldris Katsina.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has redeemed his pledge of N10 million to the state’s para-athletes and officials in recognition of their outstanding performance at the 3rd National Para Games.

The Executive Director of the Katsina State Sports Council, Abdullahi Bello Rawayau, announced this during the distribution of the cash rewards to athletes who won gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as to officials who accompanied the contingent to the competition.

Rawayau commended Governor Radda for fulfilling the promise, describing the gesture as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to sports development and the welfare of athletes in the state.

He noted that the reward would serve as motivation for the athletes to strive for greater success in future national and international competitions.

Addressing the gathering, the state sports director, Abdullahi Bello Rawayau, says the ten million naira pledge follows the outstanding performance of the state contingents at the previously conducted Abuja 3rd National Para Games.

Rawayau noted that part of the cash prizes disbursed, gold medal winners were given 500,000, silver 200,000, and 100,000 naira to the bronze medalists.

While the officials, to include coaches, secretaries, the medical team, and technical staff, are presented with cash tokens as directed by the state governor.

Commenting on the development, RTD Col. Hudu Usman, who’s the special assistant to the governor on people with special needs in sports, commended the governor for the honor done to the state para-athletes.

Rtd. Col. Hudu Usman charged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by remaining committed for the state to continue to be proud of them.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
