Dr Bashari Ahmad Maizare of Kano state, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim from Bauchi and Comrade S.A Adedeji from Ogun state were tasked to submit an Input/ Memoranda on the Abysmal Performance of Team Nigeria at the ongoing Olympic taking place in Paris.

Dr.Maizare and two others were asked by The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) to submit Feedback/Input/Memoranda on the way forward to avert future poor/abysmal performance of the Team Nigeria on the future Olympic Games as witnessed in the ongoing Games taking place in Paris.

According to a letter dated 6/08/24 which was signed by Sikiru Waheed, the Secretary General of the union, directed the trio to submit their inputs so as to averts the ugly re-occurrence in the 2028 Olympic Games slated in United States of America.

“Painfully, as of the date of writing this letter to you, Nigeria has not got a single Medal at the event hence, our resolve and appeal that you avail the National Secretariat with an input/memoranda to guide the union (AUPCTRE) in  a submission to the Federal Government,  states and relevant agencies of government on the issue at stake,” the letter explained.

“Thanks for giving this assignment the urgency and priority it deserves for the betterment of sports in  our dear nation,” it concluded.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
