    NSC chairmanship: Zico congratulates  Dikko

    A two time member of the Kano State Football Association, Muktar Ahmad aka Zico has congratulated Malam Shehu Dikko over  his recent appointment as the Chairman of the National Sports Commission by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    Zico, a sports enthusiast, told  www.sportseye.ng  in a telephone interview  that the appointment of Shehu Dikko to head the Commission is a good omen for sports in the country and also the right thing ever done to sports in the country.

    Muktar Zico, a  former board member of Kano Pillars Football Club described Dikko’s appointment to head the commission as a welcome development which has exited and brought joy and hope to the millions of Nigeria’s sports stakeholders who for long have been advocating  for a seasoned sports technocrat to the agency.

    A former board member of Kano Pillars FC then expressed full confidence in Shehu Dikko’s ability to succeed, stressing his far-reaching experience in sports administration and remarkable role as the Chairman of Nigeria’s Premier League will positively transform sports in the country.

    Muktar Zico further stated that Shehu Dikko’s sterling experience in sports have made him to be loved by all as  most of Nigeria Football stakeholders praise him, got standings ovations from stakeholders and was also honored by FIFA with Committee membership.

    Zico further revealed that even  CAF also honored Dikko with a committee membership, club owners too firmly stands with him, Players Union also identified with him while coaches  praised him for bringing Technical partnership to train and retrain them.

    Muktar Zico, a member of the Nigerian ‘99 World Cup and also Kano sub-seat LOC Manager, Nigeria World Cup 2009 further disclosed that Nigerian Referees performed better during his reign because he created the enabling environment to work despite some isolated challenges.

     “Even the World League Forum honored him with a pioneer Membership status and genuine Football stakeholders who knew his strides, competence, and high and low plus his commitment to service delivery will not easily forget him,” Muktari Zico added.

    The former PA to the SA on sports to his Excellency the then Executive Governor of Kano state Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau  also stated that even the defunct Ministry of youths and sports, the Media and the general public all agreed with his competence and intelligence to lead.

    Zico who is also a member Meridian FC noted that, Dikko’s vast experience and track records has well-prepared him for this critical role of managing our fledgling sports.

    Muktar Zico then thanked President Bola Ahmad Tinubu for putting a right peg in a right hole adding that Dikko’s Wednesday signaled a significant shift, as the Federal Ministry of Sports Development is being replaced by the National Sports Commission.

    I urged everybody to rally round behind Dikko to move our sports forward, Zico concluded.

    I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
