The unfortunate feud that happened between the Kano Pillars FC and the Kano sports journalists last penultimate Sunday during the Kano Pillars and their visiting Niger Tornadoes FC National Professional Football League encounter is no doubt sad and very regrettable.
But to me, the crisis can be avoided if the two top Kano media men Abubakar Isa Yamalash and Ismail Abba Tanglash, members of the Kano Pillars Board and also Kano sports journalists.
Besides, the duo are occupying the positions of the Head and Assistant of the Kano Pillars Football Club’s Media Committee.
With these I see no reason why Abubakar Isa Yamalash and Ismail Abba Tanglash should be in the committee that will not protect the interest of their colleagues.
I am sure the two were part of the decision, if any, taken to boost the revenue generation of the team which made it compulsory for everybody to pay before gaining entry into the stadium.
So, if that is the case I don’t see any reason why the two, Yamamlash and Tangalash should not forward the case of their members (sports journalists) which will instantly exempt them from the “operation show your tickets”.
Or in the alternative, the two gentlemen request some number of tickets which will then be given to the media men to enter without any problem.
Abubakar Isa Yamalash and Ismail Abba Tanglash should know that creating bad relations with the press is not a good idea but dangerous to the team and the management too.
Unlike any other person that enters to watch, the pressmen are there to perform their legitimate duties. Pressmen world over don’t buy tickets to watch any match. Kano Pillars should match(es) should not be exempted.
Being members of the press serving in the Kano Pillars Board, most of us see the two as protectors of the interest of their pen-pushing colleagues. Their presence in the board should be a blessing to their colleagues and not the other way round.
They should have caution the board against any decision that will damage the relation between the board and the press.
To me, the press should blame nobody but these two because they ought to protect their interest anytime, anywhere.
Unless they are on another mission which we don’t know or are trying to sabotage the team, this ugly incident should not be repeated.
