It is an indisputable fact that the Kano state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is doing its possible best to develop sports in the state and this can be testified via its series of sports development programmes.

But the animosity that erupted between the commissioner of sports and the permanent secretary of the ministry if not handled carefully is bound to kill the ministry and collapsed sporting activities in the state, investigation by this site can authoritatively reveal.

Findings by this site unfolded the sour relationship within the top hierarchy of the state ministry of youth and sports development has escalated to a point of no return as the two top officials are now at the dividing ends.

Impeccable source told this site that there is a power tussle between the commissioner and the permanent secretary that is crippling the ministry as the accounting officer of the ministry was said to be chased out of office and never return to his office for weeks now.

Investigation by this site has further revealed that the two top officials of the ministry are at logger-head following their disagreement on work ethics in the ministry. The commissioner wants his words to be respected and obeyed while the permanent secretary who is the accounting officer of the ministry, was stiffed on the adherence of due process on everything to be done, an action which did not go down well with the commissioner.

It was also confirmed that the commissioner wanted his verbal words to be obeyed and effected but the permanent secretary’s insistence on due process does not go down well with the commissioner. As his actions are regarded as insubordination and lack of respect to the office of the honorable commissioner.

As at the time of writing this report, the Permanent Secretary has since been forced out of office for weeks, as he is being seen and regarded as a stumbling block for the smooth running of the ministry.

To douse the burning fire between the two top officers of the ministry, the Permanent Secretary was advised by close associates (mostly Permanent Secretaries) to leave office and never return until further notice.

Investigation further revealed that the office of the Head of Service is fully aware about the very sad development and are indecisive on the matter.

Efforts to hear from both parties proved abortive as nobody is ready to say anything on the matter.

I was at the production unit of the Triumph Publishing Company, Kano but my keen interest in sports journalism made me to be sports writer and maintained a sports column called (Sports Eye) after my mentor Sani Muhammad Zaria transferred his service to New Nigeria newspapers in Kaduna. And when the government closed the Triumph in 2012, I was transfered to lectured DTP in the Department of Printing Technology of Kano State Polytechnic. And now that I retired, i used to visit the institution weekends for part-time lecturing.
