The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano Strategic Command, in partnership with Mazaje Trado, held a traditional Dambe competition on Wednesday as part of a week-long celebration of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event was a lively celebration of culture and community spirit.

The Strategic Commander, CN AI Ahmad, in the person of his deputy, DCN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, gave a strong speech asking participants to avoid drug abuse, according to Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Public Relations Officer, NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics. He underlined the serious repercussions of substance abuse and stressed that “prevention is vital.”

Throughout the competition, the subject of this year, “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention,” struck a chord, highlighting our shared need to fight drug abuse and illegal trafficking. In addition to showcasing their abilities, the Dambe combatants demonstrated their dedication to a drug-free, healthier neighborhood.
The Strategic Commander honored the competition winners with magnificent trophies and five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) in an exciting demonstration of talent and sportsmanship. This program seeks to uplift young athletes and reaffirm the connection between health and achievement.

The chairman of Mazaje Trado, Bashir Muhammad Danliti, thanked the NDLEA, led by CN AI Ahmad, for its successful efforts to interact closely with the public. He pledged unwavering dedication to the cause of preventing drug usage and advancing public health.
Representatives from several security agencies, Alh Abba Almustapha, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, and numerous others who shared the goal of preventing drug misuse and illegal trafficking were among the event’s prominent guests.
The NDLEA Kano Strategic Command is unwavering in its resolve to combat drug misuse and promote a healthier society by using all available means. The organization is dedicated to increasing awareness and advancing community-resonant prevention tactics through interesting events like the Dambe tournament.
With over 3,000 attendees and countless others joining online, the event was a resounding success.
