Sequel to a display of absolute honesty, Mr. Oluleye Olusegun Emmanuel, a Nigerian attending a capacity-building workshop in Morocco, returned over 400 Moroccan Dirham that was mistakenly overpaid to him.

Posting in his Facebook account, Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, team leader, primed, Mr. Emmanuel, as an employee of Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission, was in Morocco with his team and colleagues for the event, organized by North East Consultancy Limited.

According to Mr. Emmanuel, the incident occurred when he and his colleagues went to exchange dollars for Moroccan Dirham.

During the transaction, the shop owner inadvertently overpaid him with 430 Dirham.

Realizing the mistake, Mr. Emmanuel immediately informed Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe, Team Leader of North East Consultancy, who verified the overpayment and arranged for the funds to be returned to the shop owner.

In an interview, Mr. Emmanuel said, “I am always content with what I have and believe in returning what doesn’t belong to me.”

He urged fellow Nigerians to maintain honesty and act as ambassadors of their country wherever they find themselves.

The Moroccan Tourism Agency and local police praised Mr. Emmanuel’s integrity, considering him a “true ambassador” of Nigeria.

Furthermore, North East Consultancy Limited’s CEO awarded him as the workshop’s best participant, expressing pride in his exemplary conduct.

The Registrar General of Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission, Barrister Hussaini Ishaq Magaji SAN, also lauded Mr. Emmanuel for representing the commission with honor and promised to issue a recommendation letter in recognition of his ethical conduct.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
