The management of Sani Abacha Stadium have been told to open all exit gates in order to allow easy passage of spectators a few minutes to every match played.

The chairman of Kano State Council of Coaches, Malam Ibrahim Gwadabe made the call in reaction to a story published by this platform titled: “Ensuring Safety and Security in Stadiums: KSSC Ag. Chairman commended.”

According to Gwadabe the management of the SAS needs to open all the exit gates in the stadium at least 10 minutes to the end of the match so as to allow easy exit of the crowd.

‘The practice of opening one or two gates has continued to be a threat because of the rush to leave the stadium and thieves used to take that as an advantage to steal and extort valuables from the crowd.’ He explained.

That is the only way spectators can move out freely without being victims of the undesirable elements that throng the stadium during match days.

“It is only when the right thing is done that the right thing is realized,” he concluded.

I was at the production unit of the Triumph Publishing Company, Kano but my keen interest in sports journalism made me to be sports writer and maintained a sports column called (Sports Eye) after my mentor Sani Muhammad Zaria transferred his service to New Nigeria newspapers in Kaduna. And when the government closed the Triumph in 2012, I was transfered to lectured DTP in the Department of Printing Technology of Kano State Polytechnic. And now that I retired, i used to visit the institution weekends for part-time lecturing.
