Nura Garba has been appointed as the Head of the Digital Media Unit at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), which has authorized the establishment of new divisions within its Public Affairs Directorate.

The move, which was approved by Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, the vice chancellor, is said to be a component of initiatives to improve the university’s digital engagement and communication tactics.

The newly created Digital Media Unit, headed by Sabon Sara, a former member of the Information and Publication Unit, will concentrate on using digital channels to advance BUK’s brand.

Additionally, the unit will interact with audiences online and promptly inform them on university activities.

Letters dated March 12, 2025, signed by Dr. Haruna Aliyu, the Registrar, confirmed and announced the appointment, which took effect immediately.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
