N30m RAMBO deal: What is Kano Pillars Management hiding?

Last week we reported the speculative N30 million deal between Kano Pillars Football Club which many see as a good development to the team.

And the speculation was a sequel to the RAMBO branded jersey Kano Pillars players wore during their match against Bayelsa United FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Both players, spectators, well-wishers and supporters of Kano Pillars were very happy and impressed with the development because it will reduce the team’s cash thirst and also its overdependence on government for funding.

But sadly, up to now neither the club’s chairman nor its secretary or anybody from the management says anything about this welcome development.

The only person who commented only faulted the story and added that, was an official of the team, who commented “Ba gaskiya bane wannan domin partnership ne” (meaning, this is false as everything is based on partnership).

But when I replied to him via text too on what the meaning of the partnership he was talking about, up to now he did not respond.

I could remember unfolding everybody’s surprise when they saw Kano Pillars players wearing jerseys with the RAMBO boldly printed on its front side.

This was because nobody was in the picture of when the deal was signed, the amount of money involved and the period of the deal.

But www.sporttseye.ng was reliably told by a close associate of the company that the management of Kano Pillars Football Club has signed a N30 million contract with Gongoni Ltd, the makers of RAMBO insecticides.

Under the deal, our findings revealed that the company will provide Kano Pillars FC apart from the N30 million cash, sets of jerseys with the company’s name or product name for their players to wear during their home and away matches.

It could be recalled that Bendel Insurance FC has won N70 million contract with the Sterling Bank while Abia Warriors FC od Aba secured N55 million deal with Eunisell.

Akwa United FC signed N50million contract with OneXEbet while Kwara United FC got N45 million contract with 22Bet.

One wonders, what is Kano Pillars FC management hiding or don’t want us to know? To me they should be thankful to God that they got this deal when the government is yet to release funds to them and go ahead with their league matches.

To me, the amount involved is too small. If one takes into consideration the capacity crowd, the RAMBO product name will be on display anytime Kano Pillars will be playing at home.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
