NPFL matches: Gov Abba backs Barau FC, shames pessimists

    Abba Kabir Yusuf

The governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is unquestionably a good and purposeful leader who deserves praise, commendation and recognition.

His leadership style differs from that of those naughty and impolite leaders that disregard their oath of office and govern in an impolite and primitive manner.

I have no doubt that Governor Abba is driven by a strong, overarching objective that transcends party or self-interest, focusing on long-term consequences and guiding his actions with core values and ideals.

He is successfully leading and inspiring those who work with him toward a common objective, which is to advance the state, as evidenced by the approach and manner in which he is handling sports matters in the state.

In order to continue pushing the state ahead of other states, not just in the northern region but throughout the entire nation, Governor Abba is dedicated to running his government and maintaining his administration and himself free of sentiment.

Abba Kabir Yusuf was the only person who ever set aside political intrigue to support Kano State’s expansion, progress, and development because he is always thinking about how to raise Kano State and its people to new heights.

He is a strategic, accountable leader who prioritizes the public interest, supports sustainable economic development, maintains the rule of law, and actively advances the welfare of their state’s citizens not minding the political party they belong to. In fact, he is a good example of a governor with a purpose.

However, the governor’s noble intentions and administrative abilities are unfortunately not being learned by some of the people who work with or are close to him.

The recent promotion of Barau Football Club to the National Premier Football League was undoubtedly welcomed by all football fans as it was a good and welcome step forward for the state.

This is due to the fact that Barau Football Club and Kano Pillars Football Club’s participation in the NPFL would give football fans in the state the chance to see two elite games and several challenging teams.

But certain pessimists in the state’s sports circle nearly caused anarchy when they tried to stop the Barau Football Club from playing in the NPFL in Kano by requesting N50 million before they could use the Sani Abacha Stadium for their home games.

These people are steadfast in their ungodly and uncivilized conduct of preventing Barau FC from playing in Sani Abacha Stadium, despite the fact that every serious-minded state takes delight in having one side in the Premier League, much alone two or more.

Since Barau FC is funded by their bitter adversary, DSP Barau Jibrin Maliya, those cliques, according on my research, impose a N50 million tax to sabotage the club in an effort to demonstrate their untrue love and complete loyalty to the governor and his Kwankwasiyya movement.

Since no sane person would send his own soul into exile, they are ignorant of the fact that forcing Barau FC to play somewhere else is unquestionably a terrible and evil scheme that would result in mockery from those outside the state.

In addition to making the vast majority of the state’s citizens angry, sending Barau FC to play their games outside the state paints the government as an enemy of its own citizens.

The management of the Barau Football team, however, was not pleased with the N50 million levy, so they began looking for a backup plan, which would be any stadium near Kano State.

Asking the team for big sums of money is undoubtedly an attempt to divert their attention, which is pointless in the opinion of most of us and could give the state a foolish appearance.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stepped in after seeing the risk and harm the levy on Barau FC would cause to his government and learning of this depressing and offensive scenario.

To the governor, political differences between him and Barau do not justify Barau FC’s forced move to another state.

The scenario was changed when the governor ordered the agents of doom to delete or withdraw the N50 million tax they had requested Barau FC pay. This weekend, the Barau’s squad will play their first game against Enyimba FC.

The governor undoubtedly listened to our pleas and cries, which prompted him to order unsportsmanlike behavior from those trying to harm his administration’s name.

As the most powerful citizen, the governor used his position to tell those attempting to politicize football to reconsider, saying he would not stand for it.

Sincerely, the governor’s one deed was worthy of praise and admiration, and I hope it will serve as a warning to those who seek to sow discord and confusion.

May the Almighty Allah grant the Governor Abba more wisdom, protect him, and defeat his adversaries. Ameen.

Kudos to Barau FC and the Kano State residents!

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
