Dr. Garba A. Adamu: New Director, KSP, School of Continuing Education

Last week, the handing and taking over ceremonies of various positions either elected or appointed took place at various departments, units/schools and centers of the Kano State Polytechnic.

For the HODs whose tenure have ecompletd after serving two terms, new ones were elected by the staffers of their respective departments while the polytechnic used wisdom and other indicators to appoint other top positions of the polytechnics, of which Dr. GA is one of them.

The handover to the new Director of the School of Continuing of the polytechnic was not exempted as Dr. Abubakar Garba aka Dr. AG emerged the new helmsman of the school after taking over from the former leader whom most people described as iron lady, Hajiya Halima Salihi in a colorful ceremony which was witnessed by friends, well-wishers and some staff of the polytechnic.

One thing about Dr. GA is certain that he is a hardworking and dedicated staff member who also completed his second tenure as the HOD Physical Science Department, School of Technology, Kano State Polytechnic.

And that explained why the leadership of the polytechnic sees him worthy for another top, rigorous and too demanding task and wasted no time in appointing him to oversee the affairs of the continuing education school of the polytechnic.

Dr. Garba A. Adamu’s rise to prominence was however not gotten on the platter of Gold but through hard work and passion to succeed as his fame was exposed during his Lecturer I, Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer and Chief Lecturer in 2008, 2011, 2014 and 2017 respectively in Kano State Polytechnic.

A respected and well accomplished academic staff, Dr. GA is the Editor-in-Chief Fasaha Journal of Science and Technology from 2017-Date is also an Assessor of the Journal of Rural Technology and Entrepreneurship Development, Kano state Polytechnic from 2018- Date. He is also a member of the Advisory Board, Chemsearch Journal of Chemistry from 2010-Date and also held various positions within and outside the polytechnic

He was also the Head of Instrumentation Laboratory from 2004 – 2010, Sectional Head of Chemistry from 2009 – 2011 and Deputy Examination Officer from 2007 – 2013.

I could remember that it was the same zeal and dedication to serve that made the members of the ASUP, Kano Poly chapter elected him to represent them at the sacked Governing Council of the Kano State Polytechnic.

A presenter of over 25 papers at both National and International Conferences within and outside Nigeria with over 18 publications in reputable Peer Reviewed Journals, also attended several national and international Workshops/ Conferences and Seminars.

He was at the Workshop on Information Technology Multimedia Simulation Organized by Kano State Polytechnic and UNESCO (2009), 3-Day Workshop on Techniques of Film Production Organized by Federation of UNESCO Clubs of Nigeria and the Nigerian Film Corporation, Jos  at Kano State House of Assembly 1997, 1st Annual International Conference organized by North-West University, Kano. Titled: “Science: A tool for Achieving National Development “from 8th to 12th November, 2015 at North-West University, Kano city campus among others.

In fact, Dr. GA is a lecturer of enormous academic standing and an authority in the field of Analytical Chemistry and is a man of gigantic psychological ability and honesty.

I see him as a lecturer of gigantic scholarly standing and an expert in the field of Analytical Chemistry with strong passion in research and innovation.

My prayer is for him to use his wealth of experience and commitment he acquired decades ago, develop and expand the new environment he found himself in because it is going to be greatly beneficial to the polytechnic and Kano state in general.

    Allah ya kama, ameen.

I was a staff of the then Triumph Newspapers, with keen interest in sports journalism which drove me to the unit where I was supported and oiled in the dynamics of modern sports reporting by my mentor/friend, Sani Zaria, the then Group Sports Editor of the Triumph. And when he left in 1995, I tried to sustain the spirit against all odds with a column sportesye. But when The Triumph was closed, I was moved to Kano Polytechnic as a lecturer until my retirement last 3 years, which gives me time to return to what I know best , the recreation of the SPORTS EYE.
