Northwest University has continued to demonstrate its strength and competitiveness at the ongoing Kano State Higher Institution Games (KASHIGA), winning three gold medals and one bronze medal so far.
The university secured its first gold medal in the women’s singles badminton event.
The team then added another gold medal in the men’s singles badminton event before completing its impressive haul with a third gold medal in the women’s singles table tennis category.
According to the university’s Head of the Directorate of Sports, Mr. Ahmad Suraj, Umar Ibrahim DT won a gold medal for the institution in the badminton singles event, while Stella Kayit also secured gold in the women’s singles badminton event.
With a total of three gold medals and one bronze medal already in the bag, Northwest University has made an impressive statement at the 2026 KASHIGA Staff Games and will be looking to add more medals as the competition progresses.
In another development, winners have emerged in the men’s singles and in doubles table tennis events at the ongoing KASHIGA Staff Games.
In the Men’s Singles, Salaudeen Mushafiu of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) clinched the gold medal, while Naziru Haruna of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH) won silver.
The two bronze medals went to Dr. Idris Ahmad of BUK and Mallam Abbas Abdullah of ADUSTECH.
In the Men’s Doubles, the BUK pair of Salaudeen Mushafiu and Dr. Idris Ahmad emerged champions to claim the gold medal.
The silver medal went to the ADUSTECH duo of Dr. Adepoju A. Akeem and Naziru Haruna.
Meanwhile, the bronze medals were won by Dr. Mikail Usman and Abubakar Abdullahi of Northwest University, as well as Omowumi Sunday S. and Hamza Abdullahi of the Federal College of Agricultural Produce and Technology (FCAPT).
